   1. What is the context of this section?

4. This week we will review Lucretius I starting at line 146.
   1. Darkness has to be lifted not just by looking but understanding
   2. We can’t stand up to religion if we think we are going to burn in hell forever
   3. Nothing comes from nothing is the first step in the analysis of seeing that the gods do not control everything.
   4. This responds to the prior views such as Aristotle of causes.
   5. Discussion of the nature of science vs what Lucretius / Epicurus were doing.
   6. “Supernatural” needs to be explained so it is clear that just because we don’t understand it doesn’t make it supernatural.
