New Resource - The Tranquillists: Table of Sources

Today added to the site is a new reference table, "The Tranquillists."

It documents, writer by writer and with a full citation for each quotation, the claim that Epicurus's true goal was not pleasure but "absence of pain," under its many names: ataraxia, tranquility, katastematic pleasure, static pleasure. A second table collects the scholars who have argued directly against that reading.

Both tables are sorted newest to oldest, so readers can see how the "tranquillist" reading took hold and who has pushed back against it.

The table can be viewed at the link below or by opening the "Charts and Tables" menu in the left navigation sidebar.
